Roots of Empathy Programme - Thursday 19th September, 2017

20th Jan 2017

On Thursday Maureen, baby Leah and Mrs Loane came in to school to visit Mrs Moore's class as part of the Roots of Empathy Programme. The theme that we are learning about this term is sleep and we had prepared some questions for Mrs Loane. We found out a lot about what baby Leah's sleep patterns and routines are at this stage. She loves her sleep and likes to stick to a routine. Leah remains a very active baby and we noticed some changes in her since her last visit. Baby Leah now weighs 18lb 4oz and is 69 cm long. She is 8 months old now. During her visit this week we sang some songs to Leah and she loved to perform for us. She is able to sit up by herself now and we noticed how steady she was sitting by herself. She didn't need support from an adult. Leah really enjoyed playing with the Roots of Empathy toys this time. She was able to lift the balls when we rolled them to her. She also was able to knock them off each other and enjoyed the banging sound they made. When we clapped to say well done, she did it again and again and she expected us to clap for her each time. Leah smiled and made happy little noises when she was with us. She was able to stay active and engaged with us for a long time. She didn't show too many signs of tiredness until it was time to say goodbye. She loves it when we sing the hello and goodbye song. We were sad to see her go home, but we are looking forward to her next visit already. This week for homework we have been talking to our parents about what we were like as babies. We were able to share this information in class today. Maureen has given us a sleep chart to complete to see how much sleep we are all getting. We are going to take it in turns to bring home baby Izzy (our Roots of Empathy Doll) and some of the booklets we are making as part of the programme. We hope that you are enjoying looking at the photographs that we take during our sessions with Maureen and baby Leah.
